Age of Mara – 7 Month Recap & What’s Coming Next

It’s been about a little over half year since we started this crazy journey, so we wanted to share where we’re standing right now, what we’ve built so far, and what we’re aiming for in the next 6 months.

When we began, the idea was simple:
Create a small island that really shows what we’re capable of, polished, detailed, and fun.
A prototype that proves our vision before expanding into the full world of Mara.

What we’ve done so far

We now have a solid foundation in place:

  • An initial zone with a village, surrounding combat areas, and a catacomb where the main boss lives
  • A playable character with skills, gear, and world interactions
  • Inventory system
  • Trading (player to player and with NPCs)
  • Mob drop and experience systems
  • Damage, stats, and equipment logic
  • Party and clan system
  • AI for NPCs and mobs

Everything we’ve built so far has been tested through multiple online playtests with our community, where a lot of bugs were found (and fixed). We’ve also worked hard to make sure everything is properly replicated on the server, and the netcode is behaving exactly as it should. For an MMORPG, this is extremely important, so hitting this milestone feels great.

Some systems are early stage, others are more advanced, but all of them will keep being polished and improved until they reach their final form. That’s the whole point of a prototype, steady, consistent progress over time.

Where we’re heading next

We’re feeling confident about hitting our milestone and finishing the prototype early next year. The big focus areas for the next months are:

  • Improving mob and boss AI and their combat mechanics
  • Making the world feel more alive with better VFX and more NPC interactions
  • Upgrading the party system and starting to shape PvP
  • Adding basic quests
  • Introducing crafting and maybe gathering
  • Polishing what’s already on the island, vertical progress over horizontal expansion

Everything we’re doing right now is to make a prototype that can gain traction and give us the resources to build the full world of Mara the way we imagine it.

Final words

We’re following a proper structure for a project of this size, and even if it’s ambitious, we believe we’re on the right path. We’ll keep pushing every week.

If you have any questions or thoughts, feel free to share them. We genuinely love hearing from you. At the end of the day, the game wouldn’t exist without players, so you guys are the heart of this whole thing.

Thanks again for all the support!
