Welcome to Age of Mara! A world crafted with passion, nostalgia, and a deep love for classic MMORPGs. Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or new to the genre, we invite you to follow our journey as we build a game rooted in exploration, community, and meaningful gameplay. This is more than a project for us, it’s a dream in the making, and we’re excited to have you along for the ride.
We’re building Age of Mara to revive what made MMORPGs magical in the first place. Wonder, challenge, exploration, and most of all, community. Our vision is to create a living world where player actions truly matter, where your journey isn’t rushed or monetized, and where cooperation is the key to thriving.
In today’s landscape of over-guided, pay-to-win online games, we believe something essential has been lost. Age of Mara is our answer to that. A game that respects your intelligence, your time, and your desire for meaningful discovery.
We are committed to:
- No pay-to-win.
- No loot boxes.
- No shortcuts that undermine the journey.
Whether you’re a skilled fighter, a master crafter, or a savvy trader, your contribution shapes the world. Age of Mara is built to reward exploration, encourage teamwork, and grow through the creativity of its community.
This is more than a game to us. it’s the kind of world we’ve always wanted to play in. And now, we’re building it.
The development of Age of Mara begins with a clear and grounded goal: to deliver a playable prototype that captures the essence of the game we envision. As a two-person team, we're approaching this massive task with care, passion, and a deep respect for both the craft and the community we’re building around it.
The prototype is not just a technical test, it’s a foundation. It represents our commitment to creating a living, breathing MMORPG that values meaningful progression, teamwork, exploration, and a fair player-driven economy. Our roadmap is divided into several development stages, each one carefully structured to build on the last and ensure that we’re creating something both functional and fun.
We began by establishing core systems: movement, combat, inventory, character stats, and the basic network structure for multiplayer. These systems are the backbone of the game and must be stable before anything else is added.
Once these essentials are in place, we shift focus to worldbuilding — crafting the Twin Islands, the first explorable zones of Mara. These areas are not only about terrain and visuals but about creating a space that feels alive. Environmental storytelling, enemy placements, resource nodes, and ambient life all play a role in making the world feel worth exploring.
From there, we begin layering in player progression and systems that reflect the heart of an MMORPG: gathering, crafting, simple trading, and social features.
We aim to combine all these systems into a cohesive prototype build that players can experience. Our intention is to release this to a small group of testers via our Discord community. Feedback gathered during this phase will shape balancing, usability, and direction moving forward.
This phase is not about scale — it’s about core quality and testing the viability of our systems in a real, playable environment.
We’re a two-person development team with strong engineering and software backgrounds, building Age of Mara with both technical expertise and creative vision.
One of us is a seasoned software engineer with over 20 years of experience in C++, including several years working with game development technologies and performance-critical systems. The other brings a multidisciplinary engineering background with a focus on gameplay systems, world design, and user experience.
Together, we apply structured thinking, clean development practices, and long-term planning to a project as ambitious as an MMORPG. We're building systems meant to scale, worlds meant to grow, and gameplay meant to last.
Age of Mara is the game we’ve always wanted to build: immersive, community-driven, and free from the limitations of modern monetization trends. We're committed to making it a reality.
